MVBT is a non-profit community dance studio in downtown Hamilton.
MVBT occupied a prominent corner of the Journal News building redevelopment project in space that was formerly the printing floor for the Journal News newspaper. MVBT’s non-profit mission of engaging the community in the art of dance was supported by the design of the studio. The dance studios embraced the huge expanse of existing windows, which showcased the activity within. The project included design of 2 studio spaces, parent lobby, reception desk, office, break room, and costume storage area. Use of industrial elements such as corrugated aluminum panels, exposed fasteners, new sprung dance floor, furnishings, artwork, and both interior and exterior signage.
In 2017, MVBT expanded into the former Elder Beerman building, one block away, and carried the same design elements forward to an enlarged program and footprint. Currently considering another expansion (2024), CDA and MVBT continue to work together to provide a vibrant and welcoming performance and educational space to the community.
